Pornography

PORNOGRAPHY

"Satan relentlessly works to distort the most important elements of the Father’s plan.
Because a physical body is so central to the Father’s plan of happiness and
our spiritual development, Lucifer seeks to frustrate our progression by tempting
us to use our bodies improperly. The very tool he does not have is the
primary target of his attempts to lure us to spiritual destruction."

There is so much filth in the world we live in. I feel our society is blanketed with an attitude of negativity, pride, and selfishness. Unfortunately these evil influences lead to many sins, addictions, and heartbreaks. Pornography surrounds us, whether it be on TV, in advertisements, or the way others present themselves in everyday dress and appearance. There seems to be no escape from the wickedness that is pornography. However, when there seems to be no way out, we know we can always turn to our Heavenly Father. Through him and his gospel, we can turn away from the evils of our day and follow the path that helps us keep clear of such vile behavior. Pornography destroys families and marriages, ruins careers, and tears away at the good we each have inside of us. The teachings of the gospel, on the other hand, provide a light, a comfort, and a guide to build up solid relationships and a sense of individual worth that will carry us through this mortal life and eternity.

"In our day the dreadful influence of pornography is like unto a plague sweeping across the world, infecting one here and one there, relentlessly trying to invade every home, most frequently through the husband and father. The effect of this plague can be, unfortunately often is, spiritually fatal. Lucifer seeks to disrupt the great plan of redemption, the great plan of happiness. Pornography will always repel the Spirit of Christ and will interrupt the communications between our Heavenly Father and His children and disrupt the tender relationship between husband and wife."
Boyd K Packer / Cleansing the Inner Vessel / October 2010

"Strangely enough, it may be that the simplest and most powerful prevention and cure for pornography, or any unclean act, is to ignore and avoid it. Delete from the mind any unworthy thought that tries to take root. Once you have decided to remain clean, you are asserting your God-given agency. "
Boyd K Packer / Cleansing the Inner Vessel / October 2010

"Participation in pornography in any of its lurid forms is a manifestation of unbridled selfishness. How can a man, particularly a priesthood bearer, not think of the emotional and spiritual damage caused to women, especially his wife, by such abhorrent activity?"
Richard G Scott / To Acquire Spiritual Guidance / October 2009

"If you are ensnarled in pornography, make a total commitment to overcome it now. Find a quiet place; pray urgently for help and support. Be patient and obedient. Don’t give up."
Richard G Scott / To Acquire Spiritual Guidance / October 2009

“I plead with you...to keep yourselves free from the stains of the world. Stay away from pornography as you would avoid a serious disease. It is as destructive. It can become habitual, and those who indulge in it get so they cannot leave it alone. It is addictive.”
President Gordon B Hinckley / Living Worthy of the Girl You Will Someday Marry / April 1998 General Conference

“In this day of rampant immorality and addictive pornography, parents have a sacred responsibility to teach their children the importance of God in their lives. Those evils, so highly destructive of divine potential, are to be strictly shunned by children of God.”
Russell M Nelson / Salvation and Exaltation / April 2008 General Conference

“Consider the plague of pornography sweeping across the world. The Lord’s standard of worthiness gives no allowance for pornography among those officiating in the ordinances of the priesthood.”
Neil L Andersen /Power in the Priesthood / October 2013 General Conference

“Because the Spirit whispers to us gently and delicately, it is easy to understand why we should shun inappropriate media, pornography, and harmful, addictive substances and behaviors. These tools of the adversary can impair and eventually destroy our capacity to recognize and respond to the subtle messages from God delivered by the power of His Spirit.”
David A Bednar / The Spirit of Revelation / April 2011 General Conference

“Whether you wear a green T-shirt or a blue one makes no difference in the long run. However, whether you decide to push a key on your computer which will take you to pornography can make all the difference in your life. You will have just taken a step off the straight, safe path.”
President Thomas S Monson / The Three R’s of Choice / October 2010 General Conference

“If a couple allows lewd language or pornography to corrupt their intimacy, they offend their Creator while they degrade and diminish their own divine gifts. True happiness is predicated upon personal purity.”
President Thomas S Monson / Nurturing Marriage / April 2006 General Conference
